Ready for take-off? Your adventure is about to start …
Day 1 Off we go to Western Tanzania
Welcome to Tanzania – you made it! In the morning you head off to the airport and leave Dar es Salaam at 05h30 to Kigoma. The flight takes 02h10, our driver awaits you at the airport and will drive you to Mahale Mountains National Park. At the Headquarters you grab your permits and hop on the boat that will bring you to your final destination. You stay in the luxurious MbaliMbali Lodge right in the National Park surrounded by a beautiful environment of untouched mountain jungle. This is your basecamp for the next two days.
Day 2 - 4 The adventure starts right here …
… as there’s a once in a lifetime experience waiting for you.
You will spend two nights in the upmarket Mbali Mbali Lodge. Having the wild jungle behind and the waters of Lake Tanganyika in front of you, this is really a special place to be. In the morning you head off into the Mahale Mountains. This is one of only two places in Tanzania where you can see our closest neighbours, Chimpanzees.
The rangers will take you on a chimp trek and you can spend up to one hour with these amazing animals in their natural environment. After your trekking you return to camp, grab a drink, and enjoy the sunset over the mountains of the DRC on the other side of Lake Tanganyika.

Day 5 - 7 Relaxing vibes and sundowners
After a good breakfast you say goodbye to Mahale Mountains National Park. The MbaliMbali boat will bring you back to the Mahale Airstrip where your charter plane will fly you to the Kipili Airstrip at the shores of Lake Tanganyika. Here we will pick you up with our “Old Lady” – a 1972 Toyota Landcruiser. It’s only a 10 min drive until you reach your new home Lake Shore Lodge on the shores of Lake Tanganyika. You stay in a Luxury Chalet with en-suite bathroom and your own private deck built into the waters of Lake Tanganyika.
Go for a swim or on a snorkelling trip to one of the islands – many endemic species of cichlids and amazing rock formations are waiting for you. Treat yourself with a massage or take a walk up to the “Old monastery”, Tanzania’s oldest inland church. A sunset cruise is included in your itinerary … what is better than a cruise having a sundowner drink on the world’s longest lake and a campfire at the private beach. Okay, probably two sundowner drinks …
